Big Picture Contest

What’s happening with the lane on the right side?

Pic: Col Sandeep Ahlawat (89 Armoured Regiment)

This picture was shared by Twitter user Col. Sandeep Ahlawat. It shows a street in Mizoram where commuters managed to stay in the demarcated line and did not try to overtake any other vehicle. There was no unruly behaviour either. The picture was also praised by Industrialist Anand Mahindra who reshared the post on his own Twitter account. He was inspired by the people of Mizoram and wrote, “What a terrific pic; Not even one vehicle straying over the road marker. Inspirational, with a strong message: it’s up to US to improve the quality of our lives. Play by the rules… A big shoutout to Mizoram.”

People on the internet agreed to this and lauded this unusual sight where no single person's foot was out of line. Several other users then ended up sharing similar pictures from their cities, where too, people were all in line, with no sign of road rage or accidents.

In a country notorious for total absence of driving discipline, Mizoram is an example to follow. In fact, traffic police in states such as Uttar Pradesh have begun citing this example to the public in the hope that they can understand lane driving.
